Policeman Resigns After Being Charged with Organized Retail Theft

He allegedly stole merchandise while moonlighting as a Home Depot security guard.

A police deputy in Washington state has resigned from the force after he was charged with organized shoplifting.

Jeremie Zeller, 46, is accused of stealing about $1000 in merchandise from a Home Depot store in Everett while moonlighting as a security guard at the store, the King NBC 5 news station reports.

Zeller allegedly collected items from around the store and placed them at the front, telling co-workers he would pay for them before he left, the article says. Prosecutors say he was captured on surveillance video walking out of the store eight times without doing so.

Per Washington state law, a theft in which the stolen amount exceeds $750 is a Class B felony.
