This Calls for a Stomp Dance

Tulsa’s River Spirit Casino is on its way to become one of Oklahoma's leading Indian gaming facilities. Beginning in 1984 as Creek Nation Casino-Tulsa Bingo and eventually grew into a larger gaming space. Roughly seven years ago, Muscogee (Creek) Nation officials broke ground on the $195 million casino project in an effort to stay competitive and feature more gaming avenues.

With this goal in mind, tribal officials contracted Daktronics Inc. (Brookings, SD) to install several LED video displays in November 2008. With the help of the Tulsa division of Claude Neon Federal Signs, the manufacturer provided an integrated LED video display solution. Three Daktronics LED video displays line the middle of the 72-ft.-high custom marquee, where they span more than 50 ft. and wrap around both sides of the marquee.

Located directly beneath the main video displays, two, curved, LED ribbon boards, which measure approximately 56 ft. each, wave in and out around the marquee display. Daktronics ProPixel® freeform puck elements light up the word “Casino” on both sides of the marquee. Also, a series of the freeform stick elements enhance the sign structure.

Additionally, 8-ft.-tall channel letters that span 34 ft. are illuminated with the puck elements, which also line the casino building. Daktronics reports that this was the first installation to use three of the company’s video product lines simultaneously.

The casino boasts 300,000 sq, ft, of gaming space, 2,800 machines, 24 table games, 15 poker games and four dining venues. Proceeds for gaming operations help to fund a variety of Muscogee Nation service programs, such as housing, education, elderly assistance and healthcare.
