Tred Displays (Albuquerque, NM), a company that develops and produces reflective, bi-stable, clean-tech displays, has named Nils Thorjussen CEO. He co-founded Element Labs, an LED-display technology company.
Thorjussen has 19 years of hands-on, technology, start-up experience. He previously founded and helped grow, in addition to Element Labs, Flying Pig Systems (lighting-control systems) and Tradar (hedge-fund, portfolio-management software). He holds a master’s. from Stanford University and graduated with highest honors from the University of Texas at Austin with bachelor’s degrees.
Thorjussen said, “During my work at Element Labs, I realized LED-display technology was only an interim step in the evolution of digital signage, and Tred Displays has the technology to replace it. Tred’s unique, patent-pending technology, utilizing magnetic fibers, has the potential to completely upend the large-format display industry because it uses virtually no power, reflects and doesn’t emit light, and costs significantly less than LED displays.”
Tred Displays received its first round of investment in March 2008 led by Flywheel Ventures.
“Nils brings the perfect entrepreneurial and industry skills to drive the next phase in Tred’s growth,” said Kim Sanchez Rael, general partner at Flywheel. “With Nils’ leadership, Tred is poised to redefine huge segments of the multi-billion dollar large-area display market.”
