FIRST PLACE

Fabricator/Designer
Tony Segale
Segale Fine Art & Gold Leaf
Lodi, CA
(209) 368-7461

Client
City of Lodi Art in Public Places

Segale painted this 16 x 54-ft. mural on a building on Sacramento St., the birthplace of Lodi’s commercial district. He began with a pencil sketch before he created a pen-and-ink sketch that he transferred onto high-density, watercolor paper. Segale measured the text and structure forms using the grid method, directly on the wall. He projected his pictorials onto 4 x 8-ft. paper panels, then used charcoal and an Electro-Pounce machine to form the pattern on the stucco wall. Working atop a boom lift, he completed the mural with Benjamin Moore’s Aura self-priming, exterior acrylic-latex paint.

Client
Manchester City FC

Although Manchester United has more worldwide renown, the Manchester City Football Club has gained cache with its underdog status as it gradually rises in the Barclays Premier League standings to compete with its more well-known rival. To promote a marquee game against top Premier League team Chelsea (which, incidentally, Manchester’s “Citizens” won 2-1), the team hired Music to design an edgy wall graphic that resonates with younger fans. Digital Imaging Services fabricated the 2,400 sq. ft. of graphics on its EFI-VUTEk QS 3200 UV-cure-ink, flatbed printer with Hexis VCSR100WG1 vinyl, which is designed for direct application to brick or concrete walls.
