Boards Gone Google

Google buys billboard space to promote its numerous virtual apps

Published

on

Google made its first foray into siphoning Microsoft’s behemoth marketshare when it launched Google Chrome OS, its first software-operation system. Now, Google has launched a month-long billboard campaign, “Going Google,” that will extol the virtues of the company’s Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs and other applications on four major, U.S. thoroughfares. Each day will feature a new promotional message.

The billboards will be placed along Route 101 in San Francisco, NYC’s West Side Highway, Chicago’s Eisenhower Expressway and the Mass Pike in metro Boston. According to Google, the billboard material will be subsequently recycled or reused as computer or shopping bags. To complement the campaign, Google has set up a site, google.com/appsatwork, and is encouraging customers to use Twitter to follow GoogleAtWork for stories about Google Apps usage.
