Hewlett-Packard (HP), Palo Alto, CA, is introducing the DesignJet 5500 large-format printer that is available in 42- or 60-in. widths. The six-color-process (CMYKcm) machine offers driverless workflow via a Web-based file submitter that connects readily in multi-platform environments. With HP’s DesignJet WebAccess, users can submit up to seven file formats — including PDF, TIF and JPEG — without an application driver. Other features include the choice of RIP-ready or embedded Adobe PostScript RIP models, automatic closed-loop color calibration and up to 256MB RAM memory. The DesignJet 5500 operates at a top speed of 569 sq. ft. per hour.
