Osram Opto Semiconductors (Santa Clara, CA) announces the Diamond DRAGON®. SMT LED. The high-brightness Diamond Dragon, which achieves up to 250-lumen brightness, will be available in whites ranging from 2,700 through 6,500K, and monochromatic colors. The LED is suitable in indoor and outdoor general lighting, automotive-forward and signal lighting, and other high-performance applications.

Low thermal resistance and the high-junction temperature capability allow Diamond Dragon LEDs to be easily integrated in such small spotlights as MR-16 bulb retrofits and recessed downlights. The LEDs can reportedly withstand high drive currents without damage.

Typical (binning) current is 1.4A, with a maximum current of 2A; 50,000 hours is the typical expected lifetime. The fully SMT-compliant package incorporates a silicone lens.

This high-brightness, single-chip device uses Osram’s ThinGaN® chip technology and chip-level conversion. The LED is rated for 5 to 8W input power.
