Signage on the historic George’s Ballroom in New Ulm, MN is coming down following scheduled demolition of the building, The Journal reports.

The signage consisted of a smaller marquee sign above the ballroom entrance and a larger one above the bar entrance. The Coldwell Banker Commercial Fisher Group (Mankato, MN) plans to redevelop the ballroom site into an apartment building. According to The Journal, the group asked for public input during the planning stages of development, in which the foremost request was to save the old signage and incorporate it into the new building.

Due to uncertainty regarding the signs’ attachment, demolition began first on the back of the ballroom to allow work crews safer access into the building. Removal of the signs began on Dec. 10 and continued into Dec. 11. Questions remained as to whether the signs would remain intact after they were detached from the building, said Senior Project Manager Brian Barnett of Brennan Construction (Mankato, MN) as quoted by The Journal.
