Twitter Sign Removal Halted by SF Police

Earlier this week, San Francisco Police halted a crew removing the Twitter sign at the social media company’s headquarters as it rebrands to “X,” with just letters “er” and recently retired bird logo remaining on the building.

NBC Bay Area reported that video posted on social media Monday showed a crew using a crane and cherry picker to remove part of the sign, mere hours after owner Elon Musk announced the rebranding to X to “embody the imperfections in us all that make us unique.” Okay…

Alas, the crew did not finish the job, telling NBC Bay Area local police stopped work and checked for the appropriate permit to close Market Street and block a lane of traffic.

The “er” in one side of the sign and the bird logo remained hanging during the pause in work, the station reported. It is unclear whether or when the work will resume or whether the crews will need a permit to continue, according to NBC Bay Area.

Once — presuming the work continues — is completed, we’ll see how well the new sign goes over. Given Twitter’s… I mean X’s challenges of late, they hope their new sign and logo will be more acceptable than when Facebook changed to Meta.
