KU owns a proud basketball tradition. Ever since the game’s inventor, James Naismith, served as the school’s first coach, the Jayhawks have developed a standard of excellence en route to 13 Final Four appearances and five NCAA titles. Dimensional Innovations collaborated with Gould Evans to immortalize Wilt Chamberlain, Danny Manning (and other former KU players who subsequently played in the NBA) at the school’s Booth Hall of Fame. A 45 x 10-ft., curved-wall graphic and 8.5 x 8-ft., interactive graphic consoles represent key components of the more than 2,500-sq.-ft. project. The shop produced the graphics using 3M™ Controltac adhesive-backed vinyl, which it printed on its Mimaki JV4 62-in., dye-sublimation printer.

The Green Timbers Heritage Society preserves an urban forest to help Surrey (BC) city dwellers remain more in touch with the natural world. Signs of the Times printed the graphics on its HP eco-solvent printer. Dan Hansen and his team applied the graphics to PVC panels and wooden slabs. The system also features 3-D maple letters that were routed on the shop’s AXYZ Automation 5 x 10-ft. CNC router. The letters were clearcoated and applied over a custom-built, wood lattice or solid wood slab panels.

Client
Adkins Arboretum

Located in Ridgley on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, the Adkins Arboretum features more than 600 species of wildflowers, trees and other flora native to the Mid-Atlantic region. Schwarzenbach said, “To make each visit compelling [Cloud Gehshan] worked closely with Adkins representatives to create signage that educates and entertains while adding beauty to this exceptional landscape.” Numerous interpretive panels address the Arboretum’s restored wetlands. Others address practical tips and facts that relate to sowing native plants at home. The signs comprise stainless steel with easily changeable, digitally printed inserts. Amuneal produced the interactive pieces with removable, bezel frames. Philadelphia’s Center City SignARama franchise produced the graphics using Arlon glossy, calendered vinyl and Avery’s DOL 270 luster-finish overlaminate, which are mounted to 6mm-thick, white PVC. The shop printed the graphics on a Mutoh ValueJet 1204.
