Clear Channel Outdoor Electronic Billboards Pay Tribute To Nelson Mandela

Revered South African leader hero to many.

When Nelson Mandela died on December 5 at age 95, it’s not an overstatement the world lost one of the most formidable leaders of the past century. After being jailed for 27 years for his efforts to abolish apartheid, South Africa’s segregationist social order that favored its white minority, he was at last released in 1989, and F.W. deKlerk, the nation’s prime minster, began the process of dismantling apartheid the following year. In 1994, the country held its first completely democratic elections, and Mandela was elected president. He served until 1999, and remained a global advocate for human rights until his death.

After his passing, world leaders and celebrities expressed praise for Mandela’s life and work. Clear Channel Outdoor made its own contribution by developing content that paid tribute to Mandela on electronic messageboards in 30 of its out-of-home markets. These photos features quotes from Pope Francis, President Obama and Oprah Winfrey.
