WHEN THE OCEAN Resort Casino (Atlantic City, NJ) wanted to bring their vision of a bold new logo that embodies innovation, luxury and modern design to life, they partnered with Eastern Sign Tech (Burlington, NJ). The result, unveiled in March, is a exterior wall sign comprising 7,000 puck lights, which has since become a boardwalk attraction.

Following a positive logo project experience with the signshop, Ocean Resort supplied the artwork, which Eastern Sign Tech engineered in-house using Corel software. They then custom fabricated the aluminum structure and casings illuminated with G2G D85 RGBW puck lights. Measuring a few inches in diameter, each puck light can illuminate in red, green, blue and white, as well as synchronize with one another to form intricate patterns. According to Lyndsey Robinson, Eastern Sign Tech’s social media coordinator, the display consumes over 70% less power than traditional neon or incandescent lighting, and the puck lights could consistently illuminate a very large surface area.

The new logo was constructed in multiple layers to securely house thousands of wires, with remote controllers concealed behind an accessible wall for easy servicing. A coat of AkzoNobel paint finishes the sign.

The shop mounted the sign directly to the existing wall structure using a client-provided window washer rigging system, with the letters cable-pulled up at an angle from a lower roof deck. The installation team pushed the project to completion on schedule despite the unpredictable spring weather and heavy fog rolling in from the Atlantic, Robinson notes. She reminds other signmakers that prototypes should always be reviewed within their intended environment before final production.

“This project was an exciting opportunity for our team to showcase our technical capabilities and commitment to quality under challenging conditions. We’re proud of how the final product turned out and the collaborative effort that made it possible,” Robinson says.
