WHO AMONG YOU that are looking for new employees are willing to put in the effort on your company’s part, on your part? A quarter into this century, that’s not only the least you can do, it’s the least you must do.

We’re all familiar with how hard it is to find “the right people,” but the chances of hiring an experienced sign installer are nearly as long as winning the Mega Millions jackpot. Thus, we turn to the ready supply of young people entering the labor market. Our second feature in this issue addresses the current situation in the sign industry and offers proven strategies to recruit, hire and retain new, young employees.

The article may be more timely than ever. By a margin of 3 to 1, our Brain Squad thinks the change of presidential administration will be good for their sign business. And by more than 7 to 1, the squad expects a huge or moderate change for the better in 2025 compared to 2024, versus a huge or moderate change for the worse. All that improved business will require more employees.

To paraphrase a famous saying, “Some people are born to work in the sign industry, but more have it thrust upon them.” Your challenge is to put in the hard, daily work of recruiting through your website, social media, events and other efforts that will show young people just how cool it is to make signs and to work for your company. It’s not on them; it’s on you.
