Valley City Sign (Comstock Park, MI), an ESOP company, has been sold to business leader Wade Halma, according to a press release.

Halma takes the helm with more than 22 years of product development, engineering, quality and manufacturing experience in a wide variety of industries, including consumer products, building supplies, industrial equipment and automotive. He previously served as vice president of operations for Metal Components (Grand Rapids, MI), where he directed operations to improve safety, quality and on-time delivery, managed production and led key strategic plan initiatives.

Valley City Sign was founded in 1948 and transitioned into an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) in 2006. It will retain all team members and will continue manufacturing in its 65,000-sq.-ft. facility at 5009 West River Dr. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, the release states.

“We are at the top of our game, and our forecast for the remainder of 2024 is very strong due to our team’s unrivaled commitment to exceeding our customers’ signage needs and expectations. Selling the company allows our employee-owners to benefit from all of their incredible work. All these factors made it an optimal time to sell,” Valley City Sign President Randy Czubko is quoted in the release. “The board and I are confident Wade is the right person to lead Valley City Sign. He exceeds all of our criteria for a new owner and president. He is a fantastic fit with our culture, and he brings a new level of energy and innovation to lead this business into the future.”

To ensure a successful transition, Czubko will work alongside Halma through the end of 2024, when he will retire after nearly four decades with the company.

I appreciate his willingness to ensure a smooth transition so I can benefit from his vast experience and knowledge. I look forward to carrying on Valley City Sign’s legacy and vision of building quality products.”
