Esco Mnf. Inc. (Watertown, SD) received its one-year renewal of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program award for establishing and implementing an exemplary safety- and health-management system.
Esco designs and constructs signs for a nationwide commercial market and the church/school market. Specialties include channel letters, custom steel and aluminum cabinets with pan, polycarbonate, flexible and routed aluminum faces for outdoor-advertising signage.
After having initially received recognition in June 2007, ESCO again met criteria for safety and health standards in September 2009, according to the South Dakota State University Engineering Extension Office, an OSHA-funded consultation program.
The Watertown company is now exempt from OSHA programmed inspections for one year. To qualify for SHARP status, a company must:
• Undergo complete and comprehensive safety and health audits;
• Correct all hazards identified by the consultant;
• Implement and maintain an exemplary safety and health management system; and
• Lower company lost-workday injury and illness rate and total recordable case rate below the national average.
The SHARP award exempts the company from OSHA-compliance office inspections for a period of one to three years after receiving it. Occupational accident and illness rates must be below the national average to even begin the process of SHARP application.
