Jeff Tanielian, the founder and owner of Commercial Neon, a Fresno, CA signshop, was killed July 18 in a motorcycle accident. He was 57. The former president of the California Sign Assn. was well known for restoring and preserving neon signs. Among the company’s more notable signs is the 85-ft. Tachi Palace casino sign in Lemoore in 1997.

A Fresno native, Jeff began pinstriping and painting signs as a teenager, and painted store windows with Christmas displays with his aunt, Helen Torigian. Early in his career, Jeff worked for Arnold Signs and Ed Antenucci Signs, where he he learned about neon and other types of electric signs. He later purchased Ward Sign and Graphics, and eventually transformed it into Commercial Neon.

Remembrances can be made to Holy Trinity Courtyard Renovation Fund, 2226 Ventura Ave., Fresno, CA, 93721.
