6 is SAINT NICHOLAS DAY in honor of the third-century patron who inspired Santa Claus (whose name is a childlike pronunciation of “Saint Nicholas”). Tradition calls for small gifts or candy to be left in the shoes of loved ones — or at employees’ workstations — on this age-old preview of Christmas Day.

10 On DECEMBER 10, celebrate NATIONAL SALESPERSON DAY, created in 2000 to recognize the importance of retail sales staff during the holiday season. But why not mark the occasion by taking your sales staff to lunch or out for a drink after work … where your clients hang out?

17 Get ready for DECEMBER 17, NATIONAL UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATER DAY, inaugurated in 2011 and now an international event with “office contests” held all over the world. Make sure you announce your company’s contest in advance, and oh yeah, do not wear that hand-knit sweater a coworker gave you in all seriousness last year.

30 is national resolution planning DAY and though many of us fail to actually keep those resolutions — with some not even seeing out January — hope springs eternal … So, go ahead, resolve to get fit, lose weight, save money, be kinder to family, friends and others — and to keep making awesome signs!
