Petersburg, AK Theater Getting Own Sign

Aided by an NPO, soon no need to share sign with high school.

Petersburg, AK’s only movie theater recently received a $30,000 grant from a local private nonprofit, most of which is devoted to replacing the digital sign the theater shares with a local school district, as reported by Taylor Heckart of KFSK Community Radio’s website.

The current sign promotes both upcoming movies and school events, as well as other community information.

The sign has been up for a little over a decade, and theater manager Cyndy Fry said the technology is dated. “Our sign… has been slowly dying, is probably a nice way of putting it,” she is quoted in the article.

Some lights no longer work, they’ve had to replace the electronics and to update the messages, Fry has to physically connect a USB drive to the pole, and that doesn’t always work.
