SouthWest NanoTechnologies Inc. (SWeNT), Norman, OK, , a manufacturer of single-wall and specialty, multi-wall carbon nanotubes (CNT), has fulfilled a grant to develop highly conductive and transparent, specialty, multi-wall (SMW) carbon nanotubes that was awarded by the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology (OCAST).
The Oklahoma Applied Research Support grant was focused on optimizing reactor conditions controlling specialty, multi-wall selectivity, growth and yield as well as to scale up catalyst and process conditions for commercial production.
The SWeNT researchers also succeeded in fine-tuning existing SWeNT purification efficiency to produce ultra-high-purity SMWs for advanced electrode formulation in lithium-ion batteries and qualify the performance in electrical conductivity and mechanical properties for reinforced polymer composites and LED lighting.
SWeNT also received an additional $500,000 from ONAP to continue advanced material development of its SMW carbon nanotubes to be used in automotive and energy-storage, lithium-ion batteries.”
ONAP was created by the Oklahoma legislature to initiate a statewide project to develop an infrastructure that supports Oklahoma’s nanotechnology industry. ONAP provides a mechanism to extend financial support and technical services for the application of nanotechnology in Oklahoma’s manufacturing and business community. OCAST is a state agency established to foster innovation in existing and developing businesses in Oklahoma.
SWeNT is a privately held, specialty chemical company that manufactures high quality single-wall and specialty multi-wall carbon nanotubes, printable inks and CNT-coated fabrics for a range of products and applications, including energy-efficient lighting, affordable photovoltaics, improved energy storage and printed electronics. SWeNT was created in 2001 to spin off nanotube research developed at the University of Oklahoma. For more information, please visit www.swentnano.com
