INTRODUCING A NEW back-page feature in which we will travel back and forth through the rich history of signs as documented by the industry journal of record, Signs of the Times. Plus, in addition to these monthly glimpses, sign lovers everywhere are now able to access the start of the Signs of the Times historical archive online as well! Thanks to the American Sign Museum (Cincinnati) and the Public Library of Cincinnati, the first decade-plus of issues — beginning with May 1906 — may be viewed through signsofthetimes.com/122308.
- A Sign Mag Is Born
In May 1906, a new “monthly magazine devoted to sign painters, sign carvers and electric, glass and metal sign makers” made its debut. - Not That OJ!
Our first cover featured a profile of O.J. Gude, who started life “a poor boy” but rose to become “the sign king of New York.”
