California surfers invented wakeboarding approximately 10 years ago. Rumors claim that several surfers were awaiting waves, while sitting on their boards just beyond the break enjoying a beautiful, sunny afternoon. One said, "Hey, dudes, I’m tired of waiting for a good wave."

The next day, the surfers used high-speed boats to haul themselves through the water on their boards. Thus began wakeboarding
