SIGN CONTEST Shops that waited till the last minute have until July 3 to submit their projects to ST’s annual Sign Contest. Whatever type of sign or vehicle wrap, we have a category for it, but get your submissions in before the Fourth!

MARKETING Jeremy Vanderkraats, Signs by Van (Salinas, CA), went out and knocked on some doors for the first time in a while and it was very productive, he says.

JULY 7-13

TRAINING “We have had luck with one-day ‘deep dives’ to get understudy employees familiar with basic operation, troubleshooting and maintenance,” says Nicole Bergstrom, SmithCraft Signs (Phoenix). They aim to do these once a quarter and have seen a lot more “bang” for the invested time this way, compared to trying to fit training in between jobs, she reports.

JULY 14-20

MANAGEMENT Melanie Harden and the team at Creative Sign Designs (Tampa, FL) will be working on implementing a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

EMPLOYEES Rick Ream, Media 1 Wrap This (Sanford, FL), plans to reiterate to all employees the importance of logging in and out of jobs for cost analysis.

JULY 21-27

SEASONAL “It’s vacation season in our neck of the woods,” says Brett Jeltema, Fresh Coast Signs & Graphics (Spring Lake, MI). During this time, they plan for lower sales, slower turn times and not being able to contact clients. “It’s a good time to get all those awesome sign photos that you took posted,” he adds.
