A proliferation colorful, digital signs around San Antonio are attracting residents’ attention. This has led to complaints about the signs’ brightness and a new ordinance that seeks to limit sign brightness. Under the new ordinance (effective July 24, 2011), animation is limited to 32 sq. ft., regardless of the size of the sign. Lydell Toye, who heads the San Antonio Sign Assn. told KSAT 12 news, “They can still use the sign, but we also need to consider the public safety. We don’t want people to get in an accident because they’re distracted by the sign.”
