Westinghouse Digital Electronics Introduces neonSource, neonNow and neonPlayer

Digital-signage options for hospitality, education, food service, retail and POS markets

Westinghouse Digital Electronics (Santa Fe Springs, CA), an LCD TV manufacturer, is introducing neonSource™, neonNow™ and neonPlayer™ products. Created for the hospitality education, food service, retail and POS industries, the neonSource and neonNow software solutions and the neonPlayer give businesses more content-design options for digital signs.

NeonSource showcases ads on any size flat-panel display while customers watch selected programming. Offered for displays in landscape mode, the customizable digital-signage solution allows users to create their own content. Westinghouse’s proprietary MosaicView technology displays multiple images simultaneously on one screen. The technology can convert a display that currently shows TV or video to one that advertises product solutions, informational messages, daily specials and promotional launches throughout the day on a timed rotation. Ads are inserted around the featured content, on the sides, top and bottom of the screen, to prevent programming interruptions.

Businesses can run banner ads or include text insertions about drink or food specials or other promotional offers. A doctor’s office waiting room can show a video of a new medical procedure and/or preventive-medicine information videos. NeonSource allows banner ads and text to be dynamically overlaid to remind patients to ask the doctor about the procedure for a special discount.

A component input connects to such external devices as a DVD player or cable box. It can combine movies, animations, text, graphics and live TV/video into a single frame. The graphic and icon-based user interface allows simple frame creation and the ability to drag and drop media files to create a content wheel of video and banner ads.

Preloaded with professionally designed templates for businesses who don’t wish to create their own content, neonNow provides a simple, icon-based, drag-and-drop, user-interface design that allows for simple insertion of a business’ logos, ads or videos. Specific templates offer customizable text features for many industries, including: retail/boutique, hospitality, restaurant, education and a generic design. NeonNow can be run in portrait and landscape modes with the templates offered.

The neonPlayer content management box has a sleek, horizontal, set-top-box style chassis and a front power button with display-status LED. System features include: a 2.3GHz, dual-core CPU; a 160GB hard drive; 10/100/1000 LAN (RJ-45); HDMI/VGA output; analog audio output; and YPbPr input. The software supports up to a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. Supported video formats include: MPG1/2/4, H.264, AVI, WMV, SWF and FLV. Supported image formats include: BMP, GIF, JPG, WMF, EMF and PNG.
